Description

LIEGE, Principauté, Jean de Heinsberg (1419-1455), AV ange d'or, s.d. (vers 1424), Hasselt. D/ + IOh'ES EPC' LEODI' DVX BVLOVE' CO' LOSS' Ange de f., ten. l'écu de l'évêque. R/ + MONETA NOVA FACTA IN HASSEL' Croix feuillue portant l'écu de l'évêque. Chestret 304; coll. Piat 195; Dengis 639; Delm. 324. 2,91 g. Extrêmement rare. Flan court. Fine fêlure du flan sur la tranche.

De facture très élégante, cet ange d'or fut frappé dans l'atelier de Hasselt qui était resté fermé depuis l'annexion du comté de Looz en 1366. L'épiscopat de Jean de Heinsberg fut marqué par les tensions grandissantes entre la principauté et son puissant voisin le duc de Bourgogne. Philippe le Bon obligea finalement Jean de Heinsberg à résigner son évêché à Breda en 1455 en faveur de son neveu Louis de Bourbon.
